Well, that was one of the best Nintendo Directs in a long while. Light on the remakes, heavy on tons of crazy new stuff! And sure, we have a brand new Zelda game Echoes of Wisdom (starring the princess herself!) that we will talk about much more very soon, but there’s a lot of other exciting news to talk about! Show of hands, who’s thinking about buying that new Hyrule Edition Switch Lite? That golden beauty will be released together with Echoes of Wisdom on September 26, 2024.
It’s a good sign when a Nintendo Direct starts off with something that seems nearly impossible. Mario and Luigi: Brothership is a new entry in the colorful RPG series that we thought went curtains. The original studio, AlphaDream, closed up shop recently, and took hopes of a new Mario and Luigi series game along with it. Or so we thought! If I had to guess, Intelligent Systems is likely behind this, but either way, the game looks fantastic in a 3D console setting. Mario and Luigi: Brothership releases on November 7, 2024.
The Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) service has some great games coming later today, including a Game Boy Advance port of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Four Swords! We’ll also see Metroid: Zero Mission from the Game Boy Advance coming to NSO, along with Turok, and Perfect Dark coming to a new Mature 17+ rating category on the NSO service starting today. All four of these NSO games are available for free for those who have already purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership service with the Expansion Pack. Those who have not can find out how to purchase it here on Nintendo.com.
Moving on to more Direct announcements, Dragon Quest III HD-2D is the correct remake treatment for the series. (It’s actually the first game in the chronological timeline. No, we’re not kidding.) That Octopath Traveler art style fits like a glove in what is considered one of the most important RPGs ever made. But that’s not all, either. All three Dragon Quest titles are getting the golden remake treatment, and Dragon Quest I and II will be released sometime next year. Dragon Quest III comes out on November 14, 2024.
Do you like to party? Do you like Mario? Then you will be thrilled with the all-new Super Mario Party: Jamboree. Tons of whacky mini games and up to 20 players going head-to-head online is a great way to show off the capabilities of what could be the best Mario Party platform ever. Get ready to make your friends cry when it comes to the Switch on October 10, 2024.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD might not have a Funky Mode, but it will still be the most definitive version of a high quality game that only Nintendo can deliver. That one’s coming out January 16, 2025.
Finally, we have the big one. Seven years after its initial announcement, the trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was revealed at the end of the Direct presentation. We still don’t know a whole lot about it, other than the fact that it’s coming sometime in 2025, and that it features the return of the series’ antagonist Sylux. He was first the antagonist in Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS, and he was later teased as stalking Samus in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. But besides this information, everything else is still shrouded in mystery.
