He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion in Melbourne. He bowled with a championship New York City Fire Department team. After 21 years with the fire department, he worked for the New York Horse Racing Association for almost 20 years as a white cap in the admissions department of the Turf and Field Club.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Catherine Bozett of Cocoa Beach; daughters, Marie Ellis of Fort Lauderdale and Arleen Mulholland of Breezy Point, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. An avid fisherman and gardener, he was a member of the Norwich Baptist Church in Georgia. LORETTA DIECKMAN MELBOURNE Loretta Josephine Dieckman, 88, a homemaker, died Thursday, June 24, at home. Mrs. Dieckman was born in Richfield, Ohio. She moved to Brevard County in 1956 from Brook Park, Ohio. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Melbourne and the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary in Brook Park.

Mrs. Dieckman was a person who contributed anonymously to many organizations as well as to needy local children, family members said. Her hobbies included art and she won several awards for her oil painting, sculpturing and ceramics. During World War II, she was supervisor of a defense plant in Cleveland. Survivors include her daughters, Lorine Kleinschnitz and Virginia Mroczka, both of Melbourne; brother, Joseph Finn of Arlington, sisters, Teresa Kerin of Hadlock, and Bernadette of Aurora, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
