Lipodrene is a fat burning supplement manufactured by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals. They’re known for their powerful stimulant ingredients and iconic yellow hexagon appearance.

Muscle Factory SC sent me over a bottle to test out and review.

Overall, I was impressed with Lipodrene’s energizing effects and thought it added some decent focus to my day. It didn’t make me shake or cause me to crash, which are some other nice benefits.

Appetite suppression was mild, so if that is the primary feature you are seeking, I would recommend Thermal Spark instead. Just be warned – those can cause a crash effect and are for advanced users only.

My Experience with Lipodrene

Overall I’ve had a pleasant experience with Lipodrene. It definitely has a nice blend of caffeine and other stimulants to help keep me energized and focused.

I really wish it didn’t use a proprietary blend so that I could determine how much of the various ingredients I’m getting in each serving.

In terms of appetite suppression, it’s noticeable but not overwhelming. I still was able to eat my typical meals with no problem.

I’d recommend Lipodrene for those looking for energy and focus in their day as they diet.

Effects

The most notable effects were increased energy, some mood elevation, and enhanced focus. I would not recommend taking these much past noon, as they could interfere with your sleep schedule, especially for those sensitive to caffeine.

As I am not actively trying to lose weight, I can’t comment on Lipodrene’s weight loss benefits. If you’re seeking a magic weight loss pill, this is not it. If you want some extra energy and “oomph” in your day to support your successful dieting practices, Lipodrene may be a good choice for you.

Side Effects

I only took one pill at a time and didn’t experience any negative side effects. Those extremely sensitive to caffeine and stimulants may experience some elevated heart rate, etc.

Flavor

As these are pills, there is no flavor to consider. They went down just fine.

Lipodrene Ingredients

Lipodrene is comprised of a proprietary ingredient blend, meaning it does not declare the exact dosages of all ingredients. Instead, it discloses the total amount of its ingredient blend, “Proprietary Blend with Thermo-Rx and Extend -Rx Technologies,” along with all of its constituent parts, but not the dosage of each part.

This is typically done for two reasons:

• Make it harder for other companies to “steal” the Lipodrene ingredient profile.
• Provide the manufacturer with the ability to underdose ingredients without making it obvious.

I should emphasize that just becuase Hi-Tech Pharamceuticals can use a proprietary blend to underdose its product does not mean that it actually does. It just means we can’t say for sure one way or the other.

Caffeine Anhydrous – 100 mg

Caffeine anhydrous is the most common form of caffeine, the same found in coffee, tea, and most energy drinks. It is beloved worldwide for providing energy, alertness, and even some mood elevation.

100 mg is a pretty standard dosage for caffeine, a bit more than an average cup of coffee.

Ephedra Extract (leaves) – 25 mg

Ephedra, also known as ma huang, is arguably the most enticing and provocative ingredient in Lipodrene. This is because it can contain ephedrine alkaloids, which were banned by the FDA in April 2004 due to adverse health effects associated with ingestion. These side effects include high blood pressure, heart palpitations, fatal arrhythmia, and others.

After the ruling by the FDA, supplement manufacturers began removing the ephedrine alkaloids from the ephedra extract, leaving the remaining compounds.

Here’s what else is in ephedra extract other than ephedrine alkaloids:

• epicatechins
• polyphenols
• catechins
• ephedrans (glycans)
• tannins

Some of these ingredients, in particular the epicatechins, polyphenols, and catechins, can have mild weight loss benefits. Unfortunately it’s unlikely that the 25 mg of ephedra extra in each serving of Lipodrene will contain clinical dosages of these ingredients to achieve weight loss effects.

Don’t let that discourage you though, because there are some other intriguing ingredients in Lipodrene that have been proven to increase the amount of calories burned while resting.

Senegalia Berlandieri Extract (leaves)

Senegalia berlandieri is a shrub found in the southwest United States and parts of northern Mexico. Lipodrene manufacturer, Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, claims that senegalia berlandieri extract increases metabolism by up to 22% in 45 minutes. This is the only study on senegalia berlandieri that I’ve been able to find, it was presumably funded by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, and I can’t find any additional information about the study beyond press releases.

So that’s not great in terms of developing a body of research.

This extract was included in Lipodrene to replace Acacia rigdula, which was banned by the FDA.

A benefit of including senegalia berlandieri on the ingredient label is that it includes a broad array of phenylethylamine alkaloids, including phenylethylamine, methylsynephrine, N-methyl-b-phenylethylamine (BMPEA), and n,n-dimethylphenylethylamine.

• One of the primary uses of phenylethylamine (a stimulant) is mood enhancement, but there is not sufficient evidence to document this claim.
• Methylsynephrine (also known as oxilofrine) is a stimulant often included in supplements for the purposes of providing energy and enhancing weight loss, those these claims are not supported by available evidence.
• BMPEA is an isomer of amphetamine, untested in human trials.
• n,n-dimethylphenylethylamine (more commonly known as eria jarensis) is a stimulant, known for improving energy and focus, especially when combined with caffeine.

So really you’re looking at a decent package of stimulants. This can help energy, mood, and appetite suppression, but is unlikely to help you burn more calories if everything else is held equal.

2-Aminoisoheptane HCL (DMHA)

DMHA is a stimulant that has grown in popularity in recent years as a replacement to DMAA. Both ingredients are beloved for their ability to provide incredible focus, mood elevation, and energy.

If you’re often cranky while dieting, DMHA may help keep your mood on track a bit. With that said, it achieves this by inhibiting reuptake of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. It is not well understood how prolonged usage of DMHA can impact the uptake of these neurotransmitters.

Synephrine HCL

Synephrine is a well-researched ingredient that has been shown to aid in weight loss.

“In general, bitter orange extract alone(p-synephrine) or in combination with other herbal ingredientsdid not produce significant adverse events as an increase in heart rate or blood pressure, or alter electrocardiographic data, serum chemistry, blood cell counts or urinalysis.p-Synephrine alone as well as in combination products wereshown to increase resting metabolic rate and energy expenditure, and modest increases in weight loss were observedwith bitter orange extract/p-synephrine-containing products when given for six to 12 weeks.”

Synephrine Meta Analysis

50 mg of synephrine is a solid dosage for fat burning effects. Unfortunately, it is unknown how much synephrine is contained in a serving of Lipodrene.

Theobromine

Theobromine is a compound, structurally similar to caffeine, naturally found in dark chocolate, coffee beans, and guarana berries. It lowers blood pressure, acts as a milder, longer lasting stimulant than caffeine, and may positive impact mood (source,source).

Researched doses usually range between 200 and 400 mg (source). Unfortunately, it is not know how much theobromine is contained in each serving of Lipodrene.

Green Tea Extract (leaves)

GCG (epigallocatechin gallate) is a plant-based compound called catechin. Catechins are natural phenols and antioxidants with a wide array of effects. Common sources include white tea extract and green tea extract. In fact, it’s often simply referred to as green tea extract.

So how does green tea extact work?

EGCG acts as a fat burner by inhibiting catechol-0-methyltransferase (COMT), an enzyme that degrades catecholamines. By inhibiting COMT, catecholamine levels elevate.

Why do you care?

Because catecholamines help break down fat stores. By inhibiting COMT, EGCG allows catecholamines to do their thing for longer periods of time, leading to increased levels of fat removal.

In terms of dosage, most people should try to aim for 400 to 500 mg of green tea extract per day. Lipodrene does not declare how much green tea extract is in each serving.

Citrus Aurantium Extract (fruit)

This is another form of synephrine HCL, described above.

Hoodia Extract (cactus)

Hoodia is occasionally used as an appetite suppressant in weight loss supplements, but this claim is not supported through human studies.

Cassia Nomame Extract (plant)

Some people take cassia nomame for obesity, but there is not a sufficient amount of evidence to support these claims.

Naringin (fruit)

Naringin is a flavinoid found in grapefruit. It may help regulate glucose, which may help lower glucose levels over time. This could help control cravings for carbs and aid users in controlling their weight.

6,7 Dihydroxybergamottin (fuit)

6,7 Dihydroxybergamottin can inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes, resulting in changes in the metabolic rate of other ingested compounds (e.g. nutrients, medications, etc.)

5-Methoxytryptamine HCL

5-MT, known more simply as mexamine, is a trypamine derivative related to serotonin and melatonin.

L-5-Hydroxytryptophan

More commonly known as 5-HTP, L-5-Hydroxytryptophan has been demonstrated to help reduce carb cravings in human studies.

Yohimbine HCL

Yohimbine HCL helps promote fat loss, aneffect notedfor obese and lean people.

“Yohimbine’s ability to block the alpha-2 adrenergic receptors located in fat cells could, in theory, lead to increased fat loss and weight loss. Several controlled studies have evaluated this and foundmixed results.”

5 mg is a decent dosage compared to most fat burning and pre workout supplements, but keep in mind there are two more kinds of Yohimbine included below.
